I think one of the many interesting things about this world is our love of stories. Many people grow up listening to tales of princes and princesses and make believe fantasies with happy ever after endings, but the truth is there is so much that you can take from them. They are an expressive art, a base for imagination, and a growth of language. I think that's why I like it so much!
A few semesters back I took a theater class where we had to do a project as if we were the director. We had to come up with an idea and present it as if we were gonna put on a play to tell the story. For me this was both a challenge, but super fun! I liked the idea of being able to include my own interpretations and ideas! It also served as a means of therapy, which opened me up to the idea of psychodrama, by being able to relate to characters or theme and then analyzing the connections.
One of my most favorite stories is that of Anastasia Romanov, the Grand Duchess of Russia. It's a story with a tragic ending, but I find that sometimes the chaos is oh so beautiful. The controversy of her life is that she escaped. In truth, she was killed along with her family in a brute Romanov shooting. The events playing up to her mysterious death however, always fascinated me. Just who, exactly, is Anastasia Romanov?
In my project, I decided to show the story of her life in a play through perspectives. One in which Anastasia dies a young girl of 17 and one in which she found a happy after! In the first I played out the death of her family- detailing it with effects and lighting. For me, it is projects like this that encourage others to reach their full potential. It is a challenge to perceive an image to others, whilst sharing your ideas and opinions. It is a way to learn about yourself and also about those things that most interest you.
I like looking at the world from different perspectives and holding onto imagination. With projects like these, i like being able to take all the lessons I learn with me. Lessons of creativity, representation, direction, and presentation. I want to be able to bring that enthusiasm and expression out in others. To show them that yes, life can be rough but, there is always hope on the other side!
